My bike had been ridden hard for three years and suffered various crashes without a service and it was long overdue some TLC. There were many issues that had progressively gotten worse which I had tried to sort out, but with limited knowledge of the subtleties of tuning gear shifting and aligning brakes, it really needed an expert to get the bike back to smooth performance and a reasonable road safety. It rattled and ticked and the gears were a nightmare.
As it is my only ride and essential for work, I needed the service to be completed on the day.
Steve came to my house around 4pm and gave me an assessment of what needed doing and the cost breakdown, explaining the procedures (as I was curious to understand) and reccomending me options to suit my budget. By half past five he had replaced my very worn gear cassette, the knackered chain, my clicky pedals with the broken bearings, all the tattered cables, fitted new brake pads and trued my wonky wheel from my run in with a DPD lorry. The gears now shift effortlessly (and finally run silently) and the brakes are snappy and responsive. I genuinely cannot remember my bike riding this beautifully since I rolled it out from Bristol Bicycles three years ago!
Although my front wheel rim is on its way out, he reccomended me a good priced replacement that I could get and fit myself in the near future and messaged me with the measurements if I wanted to shop around for alternatives.
This on-the-spot service is a no brainer. Why go to the shop when you can have an experienced, meticulous mechanic come to you by cargo bike and service your ride there and then? Price wise, for the level of service and convenience, it's better than competitive: it's an outright bargain. There are more time and labour intensive jobs that Steve said he would defer to a bicycle shop, such as anything involving extensive replacement of the hub, but he provides a comprehensive maintenance that will bring the most battered and abused bicycles back to life, literally on your doorstep.
I couldn't reccomend him more highly to cyclists living in the Fishponds/Easton/St George area.
